(doo doo doo doo)
We had a great year with some amazing projects, new clients and a new website.
While reviewing the year, there was also a feeling of sadness that we couldn't shake loose.
We’ve lost so many of our musical heroes. And quite a few places in the world got darker.
We feel the need to enjoy the holiday season in good spirit and welcome the new year with a bright perspective.
So we made a list of songs to make you feel good, inspired and ready to get down.
So... Here it comes. Enjoy!
“This song has one of the most beautiful melodies in pop music. Such a heartfelt melancholic tune, hopeful and joyous. It’ll never go out of date.”
“A song that remains current through the times. Various versions of the song have been recorded: From Nina Simone to Randy Crawford, George Michael and many others.
I chose this version because of David Bowie’s passing at the beginning of 2016. And because it’s a completely unique interpretation. In the lyrics: ‘Satisfy this hungriness.’ Humanity’s leitmotif. For better or worse. This song will still last for years.”
“Joyous, playful, funky and uplifting with a dash of eighties nostalgia. And a clear invitation to tune in on a musical, cosmic perspective.”
“...there are times, when you’ll need someone. I will be by your side. I’ll take my chances before they pass, pass me by... ”
“Grew up listening to his voice. One of the most gentle souls in music.
To me the meaning of his words change depending on when I hear them. Right now these words are hopeful”
“I fell in love with Norah’s voice right off ‘Come Away With Me’. The love never faded.”
“This song, like almost every Lianne La Havas song, bursts with positivity and sofisticated lightness.”
“Maxwell has been carrying Marvin Gaye’s torch of sexy around the globe for some years now.”
“There’s a scene in the movie ‘High Fidelity’ where a monday mixtape is discussed in detail, this is the first song. Classic.”
“Another shining star lost. Sharon Jones sure knew how to Give the People What They Want.”
“This sweet lovely song is of Common’s new album; an instant classic!”
“Really cool approach to the overly used autotune effect, refreshing in a seemingly retro like production. Cool cover art too.”
“Just listen to the jazzy piano, the simple funk bass and zone out for a minute. ”
“Time for some smooth soul with a psychedelic sound”
“Owie-o Ooo-oo
This classic funk anthem is one of the shiny pearls in the amazing legacy our dear Prince has left us.
Still quite shocked about his sudden passing, but forever grateful for all the joy he’s given us growing up listening and dancing to his music, anticipating and watching his unforgetable and incredible performances and for guiding us the way to the Funk!”
“George Michael was a huge fan of Stevie Wonder, and his influence can be heard in all of his music.
This cover together with Mary J. Blige beautifully captures his spirit and how we will remember him. Soulful, loving and with all of his heart in the music.”
“Still with us? Let's end the list with this old skool sounding underground track. For when the sun has set. Starting with harsh dark beats, slowly a hopeful vocal cuts through.”
Share your song with us and we'll add it to this list.
